Over my years in music, I’ve witnessed something disturbingly profound about music artists. As diverse as we are, many have a common misconception when it comes to live performance, something that has ultimately cost many their music career!
Overcoming Stage Fright
The best way to gain confidence and overcome any sort of stage fright is through solid preparation. A huge error artists make is not being fully prepared when they take the stage. Although I had invested many hours practicing, every single day, it felt like nothing could prepare me for my first big show.
Communication
As artists, we all struggle with the same problem when we are on stage. That problem is Communication! Communication is the core of our human experience. Yet, we struggle with it. If communication is lacking, disconnect is created. The same goes for communication from the stage to the audience.

In a recording studio, imperfections can be perfected. Onstage however, you are in your rawest form. There are no do-overs.
Throughout the entire COVID-19 Pandemic, our production company, BNY, took on more live streaming and pre-recorded audio/video projects. Many churches would record their Sunday services during the week and send us their A/V files to be edited and mixed.
Artistic Deception
Don’t fall into the deception of thinking your show needs no improvements. It can always be better.
As a Christian, I believe the day we arrive is the day we die. However, until we depart this world, we all still have a purpose to fulfill here. The day we stop living or striving to better ourselves in what we do, is the day we start dying, whether physically, spiritually or in our careers.
